Abstract

The root-knot nemalode, Meloidogyne incognita, caused galling on the roots of 13 guava Psidium guajava, cultivars. These cultivars were Alor Setar, Burma Red I, Burma Red II, Guava 3, Guava 4, Guava 5, Hong Kong Pink, Indonesia, Kampuchea, Taiwan Apple, Taiwan Panjang, Taiwan Pear and Thai Red. For the Kampuchea caultivar, the root-knot nematode reduced plant height, girth size, total fruit weight, number of fruit and average fruit weight. The nematode infecrion could be controlled by treating with 20 g of 10% fenamiphos every 4 months. The treatment reduced the nematode level in the soil and infection on the roots, thereby improving growth and fruit yield.
