Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate the padi/rice quality at various milling stages at private commercial rice mills in Peninsular Malaysia. The study revealed that the small mills (less than 2-t capacity) were not well-equipped and as a result the quality of padi/rice produced were not satisfactory. Milling process was more effectively conducted at large milling complexes (more than 2-t capacity). The quality of rice produced was comparable with the product processed at government milling complexes.
