Abstract

Management practices for double nursery in Kerian were studied. Seed rate of 1000 g dry seeds per metre square was found suitable for the first nursery. Good seedling height at ' redeh' and at final transplanting, and higher grain yield were obtained when mud/clay was used as the nursery medium and when seedlings were transplanted in clumps of 6 cm x 6 cm. Taller and more vigorous seedlings were obtained from clumps spaced at 20 cm x 20 cm apart in the second nursery. Ammophos at 20 g/m2 and urea between 20 g/m2 and 40 g/m2 applied in the second nursery improved seedling growth.
