Abstract

Pruteen, the commercially produced single-cell protein, was evaluated for chemical composition, availability of amino acids (AAA), true metabolizable energy (TME), digestibility and its effects on growth performance of broilers. Results showed that Pruteen was a low crude fibre (0.35%) and high crude protein (71.94%) feedstuff having high true AAA (mean 92.0%) and a TME value of 13.51 MJ/ kilogramme. Its digestible crude protein was 61.00 per cent. Birds fed with 3% Pruteen obtained nutrient digestibility and growth performance similar to those fed the control diet containins 5% fish meal.
