SUMMARY

Pods of Phaseolus vulgaris of several sizes can photosynthesize and contribute to the growth of the pods and seeds. They were the major sinks at the reproductive stages. When whole plants except the pods were labelled 60% o 14C- assimilates were found in the pods when only the pods were labelled, 72% of 14C - assimilates was found in the pods.
