Abstract

This paper describes for the first time the isolation and purification of a polar chemical marker known as methyl gallate from Labisia pumila leaves. This compound was isolated and purified through an open column chromatography. Analytical thin layer chromatography (TLC) was used to monitor the separation of the compound. The pure compound obtained was further analyzed using gas chromatography mass spectrometry direct injection probe (GCMS DI-probe) while identification of the structure was performed using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscope by conducting various analysis such as 1H, 13C and Heteronuclear Multiple Bond Correlation (HMBC).
