Odour science and odour sampling technique for agricultural facility for assessments: A review

Abstract
Assessing odour emissions from agricultural facilities is crucial as intensive livestock farms have been attracting increased attention due to its adverse impacts on environment and human health. Selection of a defined technique with high repeatability is essential to sample and measure odour characteristics. In order to present captured odour as a whole during measurement and characterisation, odour sampling process must be determined accurately, which is lacking for agricultural farms odour identification and abatements. Odour sampled should be ideal for detection using both sensory and instrumental measurements that are usable for establishing odour units and thus regulatory requirements. This paper reviews odour science and suitable odour sampling techniques for assessment for agricultural activities. Assessment technique of odour captured during sampling will not be reviewed in this study.
