Abstract

The horizontal and vertical root distribution of 4 to 5-year-old budded durian (Durio zibethinus Murr.) cv. D 24 was studied. Root length density decreased horizontally from the crown and vertically with soil depth. More than 85% of root length density was located within the first three-quarters of canopy size from the crown. About 72-87% of root length density concentrated within 0-45 cm from the soil surface. Approximately less than 15% of root length density was found at the edge of the canopy.
