Abstract

A field experiment was conducted on Lake fine sand to study the effects of water stress on leaf expansion and photosynthesis of corn and soybean. It was noted that reduction in leaf expansion and photosynthesis was observed earlier in soybean as compared with corn. The drought - induced decline in photosynthesis was relatively sharper in soybean as compared with corn which was more gradual . This reduction in leaf expansion and photosynthesis was correlated to significant reduction in plant height and dry matter production in both crops.
