Laboratory screening of cabbage for resistance to erwinia carotovora subsp. carotovora

Abstract

A laboratory technique called the stem-dise inoculation technique for screening cabbage varieties against the soft rot disease was developed. It was effective. rapid and efficient. Using this technique all the six common cabbage varieties tested riz KY Cross. Sri Gowa. US Tropical. Autumn Queen and Eiyu were shown to be suseepitble than other varieties with varieties Autumn Queen and Eiyu performing better than variety US Tropical. Isolates of E.carotovora varied greatly in virulence showing highly significant interaction with cabbage varieties.
