Abstract

A study was conducted to determine the mineral status in blood plasma, organs or tissues of local crossbred goats. Samples of liver, kidney, heart, lung, spleen, small intestine, brain, muscle (Longissimus dorsi) and, skin together with femur, humerus, tibia, radius-ulna and second rib were analysed. The levels of Ca, P, Mg, K, Na, Cu, Zn, Fe and Mn from these samples were given. The concentrations of Ca and P in the bones were below normal levels with the range of 15.01% to 21.47% and 1.14% to 12.35% respectively. Low concentrations of Mg and Cu were also found in blood plasma with the mean values of 1.07 mg/100 ml and 0.29 ppm respectively. The distribution of each mineral in tissues varied greatly, depending on their type and function in mineral metabolism in the body.
