Abstract

Zinc phosphide, pyrinuron and kayanex were evaluated in ad libitum tests under no-choice and choice conditions against Rattus argentiventer. Results of the no-choice feeding tests showed that 3.0% zinc phosphide ,0.2% pyrinuron and 1.0% kayanex caused 100% mortality in both sexes. The no-choice and choice feeding tests indicated that rats were able to detect the presence of zinc phosphide, pyrinuron and kayanex in baits. The optimum concentration of zinc phosphide, pyrinuron and kayanex indicated by the palatability (choice) tests was 1.5 per cent . Prebaiting is essential for successful control when zinc phosphide, pyrinuron and kayanex are used against field populations of R.argentiventer.
