 Abstract

There is considerable variation in the disease spectrum of the five major cocoa growing areas in West Malaysia. Vascular streak die-back disease is widespread while witches broom and cocoa virus diseases are absent. Black pod disease incidence is generally low while stem canker is confined mainly around Sabak Bernam and Bagan Datoh areas. Type of planting marterial, age of planting, rainfall, soil type and shade trees can affect the incidence and distribution of cocoa diseases.
