Abstract

A study was carried out to examine the various methods of controlling cocoa stem canker occuring either naturally in the field or induced by artificial inoculation. The results indicated that superficial scraping of the canker lesions was superior to excision.Cankers which have been superficially scraped healed very rapidly even without the application of fungicides.Tree dressing was positively detrimental to the healing of the canker lesion. Pod baiting with tissues from lesions which have been superficially scraped indicated that the fungal parasite was no longer viable.
