SUMMARY

An initial inoculum level of 2,800, 3,500 and 1,200 Helicotylenchus dihystera did not significantly depress growth of Upper Amazon seedlings after 4½ months in the following variables: dry weight of leaves, stem and roots, total dry weight , leaf number and plant height. Final soil population of nematodes excceded numbers usually encountered in cocoa plantings.
