Abstract
The reniform nematode (Rotylenchulus reniformis) is commonly found on the roots and in the soil surrounding papaya crop in Malaysia. In this experiment, the reniform nematodes were inoculated on the roots of papaya seedlings cv Eksotika which were then transplanted in the field in Serdang. The effectiveness of two chemicals, Nemacur (fenamiphos 10%) and Miral (isazophos 3%), for the nematode control was tested. The reniform nematode did not reduce the growth and yield of papaya crop significantly (p >0.05). The treatment of fenamiphos at 20 g Nemacur per tree per 4 months was found effective in reducing the reniform nematode population. Isazophos treatment at 100 g Miral per tree per 4 months was also found effective in reducing nematode population but caused phytotoxicity to the papaya plants.
