Abstract

This study was carried out to determine the chemical distribution of the micronutrients Fe, Mn. Zn and Cu in l2 agricultural soil samples from Ranau district in Sabah. The distribution was determined by sequential extraction using 0.5 M KNO3 , 0.5 M NaOH, 0.05 M EDTA and 4.0 M HNO3. A separate extraction was also carried out using 0. 1 M HCI . The results showed that the total amount of micronutrient extractcd scquentially was of the order Fe > > > Mn > Zn > Cu. The percentagee xtractedb y 0.5 M KNO: was Mn > Cu > Zn > > Fe while 0.5 M NaOH was Cu > > Zn> Mn > Fe. 0.05 M EDTA was Mn > Cu > Zn> Fe and 4.0 M HNO3 was Fe > > Zn > Cu > Mn. The percentage extracted by 0.1 M HCI was Mn > Cu > Zn > > Fe.
