Abstract

Thirty-four insecticides, including nine granules, were evaluated for their effectiveness against the green leafhopper, Nephotettix virescens (Dist.). Among these. BPMC, MIPC, azinphos-ethyl, tetrachlorvinphos and MTMC + carbaryl were most rapid in action and persistent. Besides contact toxicity, some of the chemicals like, MIPC, methomyl. BPMC and carbofuran also possessed good systemic properties. Among the granules, carbofuran was found to be most effective and persistent. When applied to the root zone of the rice plants, excellent control was still obtainable even at 8 weeks after application. Chemicals with rapid action and good persistency like BPMC and MIPC, were found to give good protection against the tungro virus.
